How to add / edit / delete skills from my profile

Updated today

When you upload your resume, our system uses AI to automatically detect and extract your skills.

These appear in your Skills section to help match you with relevant opportunities.

How to manually add, edit, or delete skills

If a skill didn’t get picked up from your resume, you can add it manually using the type-ahead skill search field in your profile.

  1. Go to the Skills section of your profile.

  2. Use the search bar to look up a skill, click the matching suggestion, and add it to your profile.

  3. To remove or edit existing skills, click the red "x" next to the skill you want to delete.

Understanding skill suggestions and terminology

You might notice that skills in your profile don’t always look exactly like the ones you typed on your resume. That’s because our system uses semantic AI, which means it understands different ways people describe the same skill.

For example, if you type “Software developer”, you might see “Software Engineering” as the suggested skill.

That’s because our AI groups similar skills under a standard industry term, in this case, “Software Engineering.”

This is how the skill is semantically normalized to improve matching and avoid missing anyone with the right experience. It’s a skill label only, helping match experience, not a requirement for an engineering degree.

This approach helps you appear in more relevant searches, even if employers use slightly different wording.

Add skills to strengthen your profile

Sometimes, standing out comes down to the details in your skills, especially if you're in a specialized role like a developer.

After uploading your resume, it’s always a good idea to:

  1. Review your Skills section to see what was picked up.

  2. Think about what’s missing that could help define your expertise more clearly.

For example, let’s say you're a Java developer. Your resume might already pick up broad terms like Java or software engineering.
But to stand out, especially from someone in a different role who may also have worked with Java, you can manually add more specific, role-relevant skills like:

  • Object-oriented software development

  • Spring Framework

  • RESTful APIs

  • J2EE

  • SQL databases

  • SOAP

  • AngularJS, ReactJS, Node.js

These types of skills help paint a clearer picture of what you’ve actually done — and what you’re great at.

What if my skill is missing?

While our AI tool is smart, it’s still improving. That’s why it’s critical to include specific skills, modules, or certifications directly on your resume.

  • Specific technical modules. (e.g. SAP BRIM, SAP FICA, Adobe Journey Optimizer)

  • Niche technologies or tools (eg: nCino, Duck creek, Murex)

  • Industry certifications (eg: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional)

Even if they don’t show up in your profile yet, recruiters and hiring managers can search for these behind the scenes. Their version of the system allows them to scan resumes for custom terms, including ones not yet fully integrated into our skill database.

So if it’s on your resume, they’ll find it, even if you don’t see it in your skill list yet.

Submitting missing skills

If you notice that something important is missing from the skill list, you can send us a quick note using the chat icon in the lower corner of your screen.

We’ll submit the missing skill to our AI partner. While we can’t guarantee it will be added, it helps highlight where skill gaps exist and may influence future updates to the system.
